Hugh came a long way. From somebody with very distinct distaste for fighting to a fishman willing to protect everyone no matter what. I guess that fight was his actual first failure and wake-up call to realize that if he falls, those he needs to protect fall right after.
Reversal to when he was shot waaaay back by Chase and used to be very reluctant to openly participate in the conflict.

Hey. If nothing else then at least now his current buffed up self can actually woo other fishbros ;D

It's true, Hugh's attitude and approach to combat has shifted a lot from the start of the story. The layers of bedrock have been eroded by recent failures and experiences and now he's tempered, ready to change.

As for Hugh and Marco - they've always been a couple, but as I wrote the story my plan initially was to let that be the case, but off screen. I found a way to significantly shorten a scene in this chapter though and found myself with some extra pages to work with. I thought it would be nice to establish their relationship a little bit, only on this page and the next.

Ah! I meant that Marco was pretty miffed in the past when he ended up in the hospital due to Hugh's softness. I never figured they broke up or something though since you already hinted at this back then so I always figured they are at least attracted to each other.

Just that Hugh is the kind-hearted giant but now he can also protect others with his strength and that counts for both, haha.

According to Situational Leadership theory, a team member who is willing but unable to perform their duties should receive high [positive] emotional support to go along with providing them additional training to overcome their weaknesses.

Well, it seems that this emotional support is being provided from a very unexpected source! Haha :D

Huh... I hafta say it: Man-boobs in panel 4 XD

More seriously... I have the feeling that it's a pity that these different groups in this comic are enemies of each other. They are all so like-able, especially the fish-men and of these, Hugh is the most like-able. As serious as he is about becoming a better... protector? Bodyguard!

(And that's my last comment for this year, I'll be on holiday until 2019-01-07. Merry Christmas, happy Hanuka or whatever you celebrate :), and a happy new year, everybody.)

It was a weird panel. Definitely one of the victims of my "stop fussing with it and move on" policy.

The thing you're touching on is generally the idea of the tragedy of this story, though. Two groups that, if their end goals were more aligned, would possibly be friends. I'm glad though that Hugh is as well-liked as he is - he's kind of the intended emotional anchor of a lot of this stuff :)

But hey! Have a wonderful holiday season, I look forward to seeing you again when you return! See you next year :)

How Sweet

This is such a great page. I love the fact that Hugh is training to be able to protect those he cares about.

Also, quite a surprising last page! It's so nice!
