And back to Clara!

So, I got some CRAZY news yesterday - I got accepted into the Comic Arts program at MCAD! THIS FALL! So if nothing blows up I guess I'm off to college in August?

The thing is that I've been in a pretty major depressive spell (if you couldn't tell) so I can't really FEEL the emotions I should probably be feeling? I'm used to this weird sort of sensation at this point, but I know I should be excited. They tout that if you make it into the program, and finish it, their hire rate in the comics industry is about 77 percent. I like the odds.

I'm not sure what this will do to the upload schedule yet... ideally, I'll be living on campus and the rent will be part of my tuition so I'll be able to just do art full time, basically. That's the hope anyway.

I hope you're all having a good week so far - be good to yourselves and others :)

Good story as any I suppose. Irwin is long gone, huh. Or hiding? Hm.

Imagine saying that to an officer, haha. Maybe less ridiculous back then than nowadays but how probably is it for someone to just loot stuff and jump out of a window? Haha. At least you can count on the fact that back then there were no camera recordings! I am sure they would otherwise say Clara has serious issues :D

Where IS Irwin, hmm...

Oh yeah, we talk to police way differently now. Back then this sort of thing was much more likely to work, heh. Shows you how much the police/citizen trust relationship has changed..

Oh indeed! And I think it goes in both directions...

Pretty much.
I also feel like people nowadays would like to use the "a monster did it" excuse a lot more :D

I mean, we are talking about a real monster causing something so it is not exactly best to say it to a cop but these days you can sometimes say anything... lmao.

Congrats, MP! :D

And are these real tears from Clara, or just her using psychology to get the police to leave-off? Maybe a bit of both?

First, I think congratulations are in order! Congratulations! :-)

Regarding today's page: I wonder if Clara's request to get some time to rest is genuine, or if she just wants that policeman out of the way...

Thank you! It's a lot to take in, heh.

As to how genuine her tears are, well, the update coming out today should shed a little more light on it, heheh.

Congratulations on the schooling! I don't know what MCAD is, but it sounds important. :)

I think Clara's reactions here are entirely genuine, especially considering:

1) A creature she's never seen before (Jack) crashed through her window and tried to assault her,

2) Irwin showed up and was seriously different than the last time she saw him, so much so that she can't even be sure that it was him and not another creature altogether,

3) She's already been out all day long with Chase following leads on supernatural/alien activity and it's likely the wee hours of the morning, possibly even close to sunrise.

Clara is a very smart gal and she knows her way around psychology, but she's just been through a major upset in her life, so I have little doubt that her actions are completely genuine. Certainly it would be more believable, at least to me, if she is off-balance and unable to do more than ask for time to herself to recover, because even heroes need time to regroup. ;)

It's the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Their comic art program has a 77% placement rate in the comics industry, apparently, which is really cool.

I think it's appropriate to, as someone who knows her better than this cop does, analyze exactly why she seems upset. Let's see which of your theories is correct ;)

MCAD? Really? ... Getting into an art school like that is grounds for borderline mania, not numbness.

This just goes to prove how depression is a wash of nonsensical chemicals misbehaving and absolutely nothing to do with reason, rationality, or sense.

That aside, all the congratulations. That is an amazing thing, and we should all look forward to seeing just what a school like that can do for an artist. What this comic will be with that kind of education is an exciting thought.

Yeah dude, it's brutal. People don't talk about that side of depression - it's not an abundance of sadness, it's a suppression of ALL emotion, which makes it easier to feel sadness and anxiety. Trust me, I've got enough of both of those to go around at this point.

Thank you, though - I really hope that it leads somewhere amazing. If not.. well, I guess I've got my silly webcomic to keep making, eh? Heh.

Congrats! That's great news! As a fan I feel plenty excited on your behalf about this.

as for it means to the comic I'd be happy to see whatever you art you choose to show us. comic related or not.

on whatever timing you feel up to. I'd be good with you taking the first couple of months to sort out something comfortable and sustainable for you.

Hi, Oni! Thank you, I feel like I'm probably excited too XD

And yeah, I'll definitely share all college related stuff with you guys as I work on it. I'd love to, in fact. I also appreciate that you'd be okay with waiting for me to sort things out - I'm not sure it'll come to that but we'll find out :)

Have a great weekend!

Congrats on your acceptance into the program at MCAD! That's awesome news. I dunno if this would help you or not, but I get that whole dysphoria thing a lot. When I find myself saying "But I *should* feel (emotion).", I try to stop and tell myself that I feel how I feel right now, and that's how I should feel. Like Tao, but with crappy emotions (or lack thereof). Anyways, it's great news. You deserve it.

Thank you!

So you think I should practice Crappy Tao. Got it! :D

I kid, haha, I'm unfortunately used to not feeling 'human emotions', so it's not that big of a deal, it's just stress and anxiety for the moment, but I'm sure I'll snap out of it at some point.

Either way, I appreciate your kind words, thank you :)

In those times, the ability to turn on the waterworks was a useful ability for a young woman to have when dealing with officialdom. <g>

That's great news! (not the whole Cthulhu dream thing, but the comic arts program).

I really wish I'd had the balls to pursue some kind of arts-related education when I had the chance.

I'm actively restraining my teacher-self from forcing all kinds of unwanted advice on you, so good luck! Work hard and you'll kick everyone's ass. Not that it's about ass kicking...

ANYHOO!

Good luck!

Hah! Thanks, man :)

I feel like I'm coming in just as the window's about to close, so I know what you mean. I'm wondering if it will be worth it in the end. Time will tell.

As far as unwanted advice goes, no no, I WANT advice. If you have anything I should think about or apply, please let me know - you can send me a PM or something if you don't want to spill it out in the comments :)

Part of me thinks that when it comes to getting work in the industry, it's at least a LITTLE bit about kicking people's ass..

Congrats on your acceptance to MCAD! Depression can steal the joy from almost anything but I also know that feeling of unreality that lasts until you walk through the door. Having lived both on and off campus during my college career I can say it was a relief to move back on campus when I got into grad school.

Thanks! Yeah, depression is a serious bitch. I wish I could just FEEL things sometimes, you know? Why can't I feel happy about this?

Oh well. I hope that changes when I'm actually going, as you say. I really appreciate the advice and the well wishing. Thank you :)
