Dunnnn...

Let's see who has a good memory ;)

So yeah! End of chapter 10! Hopefully you guys, er, 'like' it! I heartily recommend reading from the beginning to this point at some point, which might take an hour and half or something, now. Ooooh :D

I'll be starting my break with the end of this page, so that means for 3 weeks I will not be posting new pages. Chapter 11 will begin on 4/25 unless I can really wrangle in that creative energy and get my buffer rebuilt sooner, which I hope happens.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone, and be sure to show up on wednesdays and fridays for sketches and stuff! :)

The "black man" of Indian descent! Well, it's not Roy, but it is interesting. :)

And those eyes don't look normal at all. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. Nice color, though. Seems familiar. ;)

Should have been the red skeleton guy. Ah well.

Is this the "black person" Roy is looking for? Could be. The description fits and he seems like a powerful magician.

!!!
"Poor Jack.
I wonder... Will you ever find what you are looking for? Will you ever feel needed? Loved? Important?
Poor, poor Jack."

Is... this guy the voices Jack was hearing all along?
But that is how Nyarl taunted him as well... unless it is him in some form!?
If not then maybe this guy is the one who summoned Jack to Earth from "the far reaches of the galaxy?" At least that is how I get it. Jack was summoned and then abandoned until Jaunt picked him up.

EDIT: Upon further inspection of past pages, that really is Nyarl then? Hm. What a sneak. He is probably plotting far more than the upper gods suspect.

Huh.

I really enjoyed reading the evolution of your thought process through this ;)

That would leave a lot of things to consider, wouldn't it??

Ok, can I just add something about how grateful I am that you're paying off these plot threads this quickly? I don't know if you had the story plotted out before hand, if you're using an established work as reference, or just making stuff up as you go and have a real talent for story structure and pacing. But whatever the case, I really appreciate that you're moving these characters through the story as quickly as you are, but not making the story feel cramped or like a speeding locomotive. Maybe it'll feel different when the story is complete and I can binge read the whole thing in a weekend, but that's a concern for later.

For some back-ground I, and many other people I'm sure, are aware that web-comics and real comics, heck any different form of media, have their own unique requirements for pacing based on the audience, and the authors capabilities. This is a big reason why book ---> movie adaptions failed for so long. You can't pace the action on screen like action is paced in a book. If you, as the author, don't consider this you can end up with a story structure that stretches out for years of set-up, foreshadowing, and character reveals, that bury the original story in PLOT THREADS with no intention of ever finishing the story.

But it doesn't feel like that's what you're doing at all MP. So far you've got just enough plot threads to put on a good show, without making any sit on the side for too long, and with the interactions shown through this chapter we're seeing some of those threads getting crossed with each other and entangled. Keep it up please, I'll keep reading.

Oh gosh, it doesn't feel 'quick' to me, but I know what you mean, heh. I have the story plotted out but it is a little loose so I can make adjustments as I get better at drawing and storytelling. There are story beats I wanted to hit and such, this is just one of those moments that needed to happen and I've been waiting to pay off for two + years now.

Thank you so much for your kind words, though - as though I wasn't already stressed out about being able to land this jerry-rigged thing, I'm sure stressing now ;D

I'm just happy that you like it so far. I hope to continue to satisfy as we move into, essentially, "act 2"

One does not rule with a crown, nor hide with a mask, for so long without also being able to be seen in plain sight.

The attire and eyes are clearly meant to be visible connections for us as the audience. Whether or not MP is going to subvert those connections with an unknown third-party or not will be seen in the future.

Thank you so much, Taily. It's been a really rough ride to get here, and I'm always going back and forth between feeling confident about the direction and also completely unconvinced. I have no idea if what I'm doing is correct or not, but the only choice I have really is to keep plugging.

I hope you enjoy the read through, though - I appreciate your kind words :)

On the outside it's the Black Man. But also... "Poor Jack" was what Nyarl said AFAIR without going back and looking it up.
----
Edit: I swear I didn't read the other comments before writing that above the line.
So everybody got it that the Black Man is one of Nyarl's split identities. Which means that Roy is after a God. Oh My God. The plot thickens, things come together.

And a whip-poor-will flies off.

Even whippoorwills know you don't mess with the black pharaoh.

N.B. We're all just taking Thigg's word for it that Nyarlathotep's various avatars have limited awareness of each other. Gotta wonder.

Well, when one tool is broken (Jaunt), you find another tool for the job.

One that might actually serve you better, once you knock out the kinks.

Jaunt, after all, is showing signs of conscience and emotion, so he's maybe not the best tool anymore, even after the inconvenient anchor's removed. The only thing wrong with Jack here is a few piddly flesh wounds.

Didn't see it going here as he emerged from the fog, but the instant I saw him, I remembered the other avatars/aspects. Though I definitely didn't remember that he'd used the taunt of "Poor Jack" till reading the other comments. :)

Heheheh. We'll have to see what his motivations are.. perhaps next chapter?

I'm glad that it at least seemed to clearly be an avatar of Nyarlathotep. The Poor Jack thing is a payoff I've been waiting to collect on for eight chapters now. Eight! Jack's not getting off the hook so easily, it seems..
