He has enough left in him to get out, it seems. And there's a sight that Clara's not going to forget, probably...

Oh! Also, I'll be pretty slow to reply to comments because I'm at WORK today! I found a job! Like a job job. It's been way too long since I've had one, it's gonna take some time getting used to it.

Anyway, enjoy today's page! Only three more til the chapter ends :)

Hey, fantastic news on the job! Really glad to hear it. :D

I'm actually quite surprised that Jack has enough left in the tank to get out.

Thank you! Me too - and it's a job I can do, too, which is great, haha :D

Jack is working on pure... 'adrenaline', or whatever his equivalent is. Next page will show just how ragged he's running.

Yay, job! Or at least . . . yay, being able to support yourself and have a life and stuff! :D

Irwin's lucky those spears he threw didn't continue on to hit Clara. I guess Jack was enough of a barrier, heh.

Very magnanimous of Irwin, too, letting him leave. Probably just doesn't want to kill him in front of Clara, or something.

Haha, nobody is REALLY happy at a job, but I'm definitely happy to have income.

I realize the spears sorta voiped - but remember Thigg can make those bits teleport, too :) Let's just say he did that ;)

There's a couple reasons why Thiggwin is letting the Byakhee go, but it is indeed good news for Jack, heheh...

Now after typing my first impression/thoughts (below) - a couple of reasons? I still can't imagine one, will they get explained in-story?

Your admonishment has me second-guessing :') It means a lot when someone like you has issues like this. Honestly in review the reasons are not.. super solid. I feel bad that I didn't handle this scene better, but hopefully things will work out satisfactorily in the end..

Well now, I certainly feel more confident in Jack's ability to survive this encounter after seeing his agile escape. Hopefully my faith in his longevity is not misplaced. :)

So...Clara? I'm guessing this might take a bit of getting used to. ;)

Hm. Did Irwin miss Jack's vital spots on purpose so he can tell him to scram? Seems like it. Good for Jack then.

Funny how they are still surprised about it, haha. It is not like anyone can just turn his arms into tentacles and weapons. Perhaps Jack knows what he is dealing with now and as for Clara... Either that as well or just the fact that yeah, it is not a normal sight. Irwin is almost all absorbed by this point.

Now for a very awkward reunion. Nothing I would light candles and pour wine for :/

Who knows where Jack's vitals are? :D He might have been hit somewhere bad, but he's running on pure "Go fuel" at this point. He can't maintain this for much longer, as we'll see coming up.

It's not that they're surprised that he's mutated so much as the weird eyes and the sheer amount of coverage. The stretchy arm was weird, this was... more so.

Let's see how the reunion goes..! :D

Congratulations on the new job. My youngest just got his first tech sector job. Getting your foot in the door can be a real toe-curler.

As for the story it doesn't look like things went according to plan for anybody. I'm betting that Thigwin is bluffing. I think he just shot his bolt and that's all he's got. But, Jack doesn't know that and at this point can't afford to take the risk. It looks like Clara is slipping into "Holy $#!+, what just happened?" mode. I would say that Irwin's best bet is to explain Thigg as a "living bandage" in order to avoid a total freak out on her part. Clara has really held up pretty well considering that her missing boyfriend has mysteriously appeared in her room only to be attacked and eviscerated by a dino-bat alien. She's entitled to a little shock.

I've been in and out of work in the tech industry for the last ten years or so. Just hit a real big dry spell for some reason - a lot of them looking to pay well below what the work is worth.

Yeah, basically this whole scene was a scuttlebutt - nobody got what they were after in the end, so now we get to see how everyone picks up the pieces. I hope people like how it turns out, heheh..

Heyyy CONGRATS on the job!

But... why...?

I mean, why would Irwin let Jack go just like this? I rather expected... either, Jack falling over and Irwin throwing him out the window, Jack grabbing something or otherwise managing to reach the ground without hurting himself and the getting away. Or Irwin getting between Jack and Clara, swiping a blade at Jack who then turns to flee.

But this... it would even give Jack another chance to stab Clara. Tactically a poor move of Irwin. And he didn't know Jack, right? Against an unknown enemy that hasn't shown to be willing to communicate and whom you just overpowered, maybe, by a little margin, you give all you have.

At least that's what I would do. I can see no good reason for Irwin to let Jack go.

Edit: Irwin looks so f'ing badass in panel 3, almost superhero level.

Hojeez. First off, thank you!

To the rest... you have a good point. Reviewing how this shook out and the ideas in my head compared to the points you bring up here, these make more sense. I guess that's what happens when you get so involved in your own process without any co-authors.

It feels like an oversight but I'm really hoping this doesn't break the readability... you'll have to let me know. If I ever make a print version I might end up re-writing this scene. We'll see.

I'm glad you like Thiggwin's look in panel three though. :')

Hm. So is this confirmed mistake? Because I had a though but I guess that is not possibility now :D

Still, here it is for legacy reasons.

When I read it the first time I figured Thigg has a plan. Run like a coward and tell your master we are back in town. Since he has a grudge against Jaunt and anyone related. If you cannot kill Jack in a fight then defeat him and let him tell Jaunt the game is on again.

Granted, why would he do it after having a good, I dunno but hey, Irwin was just defending himself and Jack was the sudden intruder.

These were my thoughts, imagining myself in Thiggwin's shoes. But he/they is/are your character(s), they may very well think different. We'll see :)

(Whatever Thiggwins's reasons are, even if they are "not so good": He/they has/have reasons. With totally no reasons it might be a little issue but IMHO it doesn't have the potential to harm the readability.)

Of course, Thigwin could have been telling Clara to leave so she didn't have to see him finish (and possibly eat) Jack. Jack just took advantage of the distraction to get out.

I really hope his lungs begin to collapse, even though he entertained me earlier and elicited sympathy before proving himself to be a stone-cold killer. Jack's back, but not for long now that it's all perforated.
