Believe it or not, I had exactly ONE reader call this. Unless I'm wrong and someone else did and I forget, but Canidean, you're pretty much writing my comic it seems like, haha!

Maybe you want to take over for me? I was thinking I could use another break... ;)

Have a good weekend everyone!

You know, I always thought Jaunt is this alien badass capable of ripping stuff apart but as times goes on, you realize he is definitely high above humans but when it comes to his own society... he probably ranks pretty low? Well, not too low because he has some OP powers but it is like most of his current opponents have counter measures designed especially against him.
My point is that Nyarl "cares" (shrug) a bit more about Jaunt than I thought :D

Jaunt is pretty low on the totem pole, yes, regardless of how capable he seems on his good days.

It sure seems like Nyarlathotep gives a hoot, doesn't it? :D

Honestly, the fishmen are just tougher humans and most other monsters are either not interested or unfit for most missions. Would you send that red skeleton guy for example?
Jokes aside: That makes Jaunt one of the few properly educated in human ways and therefore being able to manage operations there. Valuable agent but I doubt it is the only reason he has this protection.

Aha! Road trip! :D

So, it would appear that the boss does seem to have a vested interest in keeping Jaunt as fully able as possible, which is a nice confirmation when dealing with godlike entities. I'm not sure what a Mi-Go is (I'm not very familiar with Lovecraft's lore, most of it's from a board game called 'Arkham Horror', which I enjoy largely because it's cooperative), but the way Nyarlathotep seems to be speaking these past two pages, he almost seems excited/intrigued by the challenge. Does he like problem solving?

Oh man, I love Arkham Horror! I miss having a group of friends to play board games with :')

As for Nyarly's tone, he's either fond of problem solving, or he's really trying to sell this idea for some gain... the gain might be to help get Jaunt optimistic about the removal, but is optimism really Nyarly's forte...?

Yeah, I do enjoy the game mechanics of Arkham Horror, but I don't get to play it very often (once a year if I'm lucky) and none of my friends like it as much as me, partly because it is Lovecraft. but also because they prefer games with a single 'winner'. Another game I enjoy because it has the cooperative mechanic is Pandemic, which those same friends seem to enjoy more.

As for optimism, I agree with you, I have my doubts that it is even in Nyarlathotep's vocabulary. After all, if you have a huge ego and believe you're all powerful, why would you ever believe your plans wouldn't succeed?

I have trouble getting people drummed up to play it, too, since it does take a bit of set up. I haven't even played a complete game of Eldritch Horror yet, which takes even MORE set up, but it's a globetrotting game which is great :)

I agree with you, though - any sort of confidence Nyarlathotep has probably doesn't come from the realm of optimism, heh..

I am by far not well-versed enough in Lovecraft-lore to predict your plot - I can barely tell apart a Mi-Go from a Mugato!

Ran into the darned things in a Call of Cthulhu session. Never were able to clearly recall just what happened though. Any time I tried to remember any of it my character grew more and more loopy, eventually ending up at an asylum...

You are talking about the Mi-Gos, not the Mugatos, right??

Now that I think of it, I am sure that that some GM out there must one day have had the brilliant idea to catch the players absolutely off-guard by throwing in an encounter with a creature from a totally different fictional universe from a totally different genre...

It's a good thing that Jaunt topped up on ichor a couple of episodes back. He has dripped quite a bit on the floor. A pint for the road perhaps?
If one is a dimension hopping being, Thigg's anchor weapon makes a lot of sense. One of the biggest threats to you is something that can chase you across dimensions. When you are getting your ass handed to you, as Thigg has at least once, you anchor your enemy and retreat.

Yeah, he uh, he knew this wasn't gonna be pretty, heh.

But yeah, Thigg was both worried about being chased and having the darn thing escape - great way to keep an elusive opponent in place!

Jaunt is plenty scary on his own without the teleporting, but he's DEFINITELY out of his element..

That Guy Over There
9th Jan 2018, 9:01 PM

Ah yes, the Mi-Go. They're basically what you get when you cross a toadstool with a lobster. So, unlike Jaunt, Hugh, and the others who either were humans once or try to emulate humans, the Mi-Go are something so utterly alien that even Jaunt will have a hard time associating with them. But it is worth mentioning that they are exceptionally skilled surgeons: They can remove a human brain and place it in a cylinder that keeps it alive indefinitely. Hopefully, Jaunt won't have to deal with something like that to get the anchor out...

Heh, I remember the webcomic Ow My Sanity, where they had a Mi-Go appear late in the series before it went on Indefinite Hiatus. The way the author did them was that their minds operated fully logically like a computer, and had trouble with humans because of that. Case in point: "Nothing I say is true. Everything I say is a lie. You are Mi-Go." *Mi-Go grasps its head, struggling to process what was just said, before passing out*

I hadn't heard of Ow My Sanity! It sounds like I should check it out :)

But yeah, I think the Mi-Go are probably the best option for any sort of strange surgical procedure. Then again it might be like trying to hammer a nail with a bullet. We'll see :)
