I hope the day finds everyone well :)

Last week I busied myself with three pages in order to round out my buffer - I am now at a very comfortable 5 week lead in my buffer, so in case life happens I'm all set!

I also wanted to take a moment to address me not replying to comments quickly sometimes. I love comments so much, it's most of the reason why I still have the resolve to continue making this comic and I love you all for leaving them! That said, I'm an introverted, neurotic mess, and it sometimes takes me a lot, lot longer to build up the courage and the mental state I need to start speaking back.

I really hope I don't upset anyone when I don't reply right away, or after a few days. It might seem like I don't care, but the opposite is true - your thoughts mean the world to me.

Have a great week everyone :)

I thought needing to stock up on blood before interacting with someone was one of the classic signs of an abusive relationship. Poor, poor Jaunt

As for being "an introverted, neurotic mess" welcome to comicfury! Where the chinchillas of the webcomic community come to quietly shiver in the dark!

I am often in the same boat of needing the right mental state to respond to comments. Crafting responses is tough...

I, also, am one of those chinchillas.

Just wanted to make sure you got that.

You got that, right?

Yeah, you got that.

Probably the first time.

Yep...

Hahaha, oh god, you're just like meeeeeeeee!!!

Except better at the drawing stuff :D

Thank you for the vote of confidence, heh - and yeah, it sure seems that Jaunt is in an abusive relationship, huh? It makes you wonder if he can't get out of it...

The first panel: Jaunt's butler comes off as being... quite the opposite of being excited to see Albert.

Oh my god, I totally didn't catch that I put a tail on that word balloon where it didn't belong. THANK YOU.

I have fixed it now. I must have been in zombie mode :')

Oh. And I have been wondering if the butler has a grudge against Albert or something XD

Jaunt is remarkably astute in his estimations, particularly considering his association with a greater power that is supposedly concerned with him remaining effective to do the tasks he assigned to do. Talk about bad having a bad master/minion relationship...

I may not be an artist in any professional capacity like either our host or the 'Keeper of Cato', but I'm pretty sure I can sympathize with your situation. Oddly enough, I always thought it was 'normal' to consider your response before addressing comments, but then I do admit to having a perspective that not everyone would agree with or necessarily understand. Welcome to humanity! ;)

For whatever it's worth, I enjoy BOTH of your writing and art styles, so thank you for sharing them. Take comfort and pride in the fact that it takes real courage to put your creations out there in the light where they can either be burned, ignored, or praised, because not everyone has that courage.

Yeah, Jaunt is nothing if not prepared. Usually, anyway - it seems his threshold for "Elder God BS" is higher than what most could muster. An aspect of his personality :D

And man, it's all good - I'm glad you understand where it's coming from. I have a pretty steeped neurosis, but I do try to come out of my shell as much as possible. It's more of a fear of coming across wrong because I'm not too good at talking to people, heh.

But thank you! I always enjoy seeing you here in the comment section. Thoughtful and helpful commentary helps me get that courage you speak of :)

Just a question but do the fishmen have eyes adjusted to the dark? They seem to glow a bit more yellow when in the dark but I guess that is just the way you draw them? Hm.

Jaunt looks like a mess. That is kind of cool tbh. He looks more like his feral old form. There is the Jaunt who is the real Jaunt and then there is the one who needs to keep up appearances in the human world just like his boys, haha.

And no worries. To me it feels cooler when someone else other than the author reply to me once in a while as well :D

I'm sure they're probably more adjusted to the dark, simply because they would also need to be able to see in dark waters. But I guess I haven't thought about that too much :)

Yeah, this is Jaunt very much not worried about his appearance. He's already got his wounds sealed up for the time being, but Albert's already seen him in his state, no need to be anything but humble and recover, I suppose..

I agree it's pretty cool to see commenters talking to each other. I'd like to see a strong community come from this :)

lmao, no worries. I asked because I have no idea myself!
I think fish in deeper water actually do not use their eyes anyway. They just detect changes in water pressure and underwater currents. I guess?
I know we are talking about fictional fishmen here but I was just curious why the glowing eyes, haha :D
It is an effect, I know :>

Mmmmmmmmm, ichor.

Does anyone else hear the voice of Nigel Rathbone when Jaunt speaks?

Congrats on the buffer because life will happen and it's a good thing. I feel you on the neurosis, in my previous life I often had to consider two or more levels of management, the customers, and various watchdogs so I understand thinking and rethinking replies. Thrashing your way through neurosis can be a bear but the upside is that if you thrash on through, even if you don't entirely beat it you come out stronger.

I wasn't able to find a Nigel Rathbone! I found Basil Rathbone, though.

I've had people tell me a number of different things, probably the funniest is Moriarty from the cartoon version of Sherlock Holmes with anthro animals! Either way it seems he's doomed to be associated with Sherlock somehow :)

I kind of picture Nathan Lane as being Jaunt's voice, actually, that smooth tone oozing with just a bit too much overconfidence.

Thank you, though, I'm very pleased to have this buffer, and also very pleased to know you understand where I'm coming from with my twisted, broken mental state :'D

That's what I get for not checking actor names. I guess I've sat through the Lion King too many times, now I'm reading Jaunt in the voice of Timon. Jaunt's sense of style seems to want diction that is as crisp as his clothing but for oozing menace it is hard to beat James Mason.

This is another time where I'm conflicted in several directions, should I say some things or not...

First thought: Come oooon, Seth, you are the busiest and best comment-answerer of any web comic I know of. Most comic creators seem to enjoy the show and speak up rarely, for various reasons. You even set up a chat channel that I didn't dare to, or feel like visiting another time, mostly because the communication got too direct for me (yeah, it seems kinda like "introverts assemble!!" in various places within CF - or not, because the introverts being introverts...) So in comparison, what's a few days?

You probably created the "problem" yourself by spoiling the readers with your answering habits :p But you also told us that your RL demands more attention, so you're already excused :D

Tl;dr: It's all good.

Just don't vanish, please :)

Edit: Typo corrected, a word removed, formatting changed.

Edit 2: Jaunt looks (more) scary without his monocle. Thinking about it... Thigg has an astonishing amount of knowledge, he knew exactly the way of Jaunt's traveling, how to stop him (and was able to fabricate this "anchor") and that this was the most effective way to take Jaunt out of the equation, at least for some time. Neither Nyarl nor Jaunt seem to know anything about Thigg, well, Nyarl may know something, he's too untransparent & alien to tell. This is an interesting situation... It could be that Nyarl is sort of a celebrity while Thigg has managed to stay under the radar... But it seems difficult to keep out of Nyarl's attention once you interfere with his plans, as Thigg himself said... But Thigg seems to think or hope he can do that... Hmmmmm....

On the topic of Thigg, it has occurred to me that perhaps his motivation for attaching himself to Irwin is that he somehow knows that it will give him a chance to get revenge on Nyarl, who may have been the one to, directly or indirectly, leave him wounded and stranded in that other dimension. I don't really think there's a high chance of that being the case, but it is a possibility. Whatever Thigg's true intent is, I have serious doubts that it is in any way altruistic, because Thigg is a parasite by any definition I recognize, even if there is a benefit to Irwin in the short or long term. That's one reason Thigg is an interesting character. :)

Oh my goodness big comments :'D

To the first point, I promise not to vanish. I'm glad you understand, and I'm more than happy to communicate, my brain just doesn't let me do it all the time :)

To all this speculation about Thigg, it's motivations, and relation to Jaunt/Nyarlathotep... I love it! I love reading all of these thoughts :D

It tells me that I've delivered enough intrigue, and people are on some sort of trail to finding out what their ambitions might be..!

Jaunt may be mentally as sharp as ever.

However, you have done a good job of depicting just how much was physically taken from him in his last battle with Irwin and Thigg. He may have now replenished his ichor, but it will still be a while before he fully gets back into his fighting trim.

Thanks for the explanation about the occasional lag time in responding to posts. I am sure that many of us fully understand what you are talking about.

I don't want to talk about how much time I spend rereading, for the nth time, comments that I have posted online. <g>

Maybe a little woozy from the excess blood production, but he's still thinking.

Yeah, I wanted him to look a little defeated/vulnerable here, because it's not a state you really get to see him in a lot. I'm glad it came across :)

And yeah! I just worry that people think I'm being rude on purpose, when instead it's the gremlin in my brain making me anxious about how to reply.

I don't ever want to FORCE myself to reply. I want to be in a good mood and ready to talk.
