It's the J-man again - one of his many outfits :D

If I wasn't so tiny and indie one might think all the outfit changes I'm going to put him through are an attempt to sell many different toys.

... FORESHADOWING!?

No. I just like to dress him up.

Don't judge me :I

You know, that would be quite an interesting way to advertise Jaunt action figures. :-D

You guys :')

I don't think a dress-me-up Jaunt would do the character justice, those doll clothes don't tend to fit the dolls very well and that just wouldn't do, heh.

At least Jaunt is a fair boss because a big part of the fiasco is on him as well.
Everyone was unprepared and surprised. Happened. Time to strike back.

Dressing up characters is super cool and coming up with interesting clothes even more :D
I really dig that scarf or what do you call it.
For a "monster" Jaunt probably spends more time in front of the mirror than humans :D

Oh yeah, he's not about to fly off the cuff blaming others for his faults... not now :D He recognizes his own failures, damage control time. I've been building up for a long time but we finally, FINALLY start to see pay off next chapter.

Jaunt, for whatever reason, has taken up an obsession with his appearance it would seem. Who knows why? Probably has something to do with the artist...

Well members Jaunt's species don't normally have sight, do they? I think that would potentially color his notions of appearance in ways beyond mere "vanity".

My version of Shamblers don't have traditional vision, no - my idea is that when Jaunt gained eyesight he became fascinated with it and likes to make sure he looks dignified, heheheh.

His outfits are actually kind of matching his moods, if you think about it - sticks traditional until he's shaken up and looking to feel better about himself, comes home in his fancy new outfit only to have someone who knows him say "what the hell is that", so now he's back down to earth and wearing only part of a suit. Maybe to show vulnerability? ;D

You know, there are times when I wonder if Jaunt is a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure fan, given his fondness for posing while wearing his finery. But then, this is set decades before that manga started, so that's not possible... or is it?

It is entirely possible that through some means Jaunt has read JJBA...

it is entirely true that the artist has read/watched JJBA :D

My first thought was that Jaunt was being extraordinarily paranoid. After all, in Innsmouth, who is going to be snooping around his house. Any newcomers to town would stand out like a sore thumb long before they attempted to lurk outside his residence.

Then, I realized that the forces that he works for chose and molded him for exactly that kind of watchfulness.

Actually a bit of the off-screen lore I have is that not everyone in Innsmouth is aware of Jaunt's presence. He is actually an alien, and only members at a certain level of devotion to the Order of Dagon know about him (like Captain Marsh, etc.)

There's a rumor about of the Whippoorwill, the inhabitant has never been seen leaving it but some hearsay has spread about Jaunt and now the 'creep from the hill' or the 'tall pale man' is a sort of urban myth people talk about.

After the recent fight in the streets, in case he was spotted by anyone he's trying to keep his visible activity down to a minimum to attract as little attention as possible - he's also paranoid after encountering two formidable opponents back to back like that :)

This comes back to one of the things I am enjoying about this comic which it giving depth and voice to characters that don't usually get it. It makes sense that transitional humans would have their own agendas and differing levels commitment to the cause.

Hey, thanks :D

I'm constantly struggling to try and get the right balance of how much of this background info to show and how much to just keep in my mind when I write, because if I show too much it's gonna get real exposition real quick.

I usually just hope that some of these ideas come through with what happens "on screen" as it were. I'm a much better writer than I used to be and if I could I'd redo a lot of this comic, but I'm letting it keep going as a sort of living representation of my advancement and progress instead :)

I wouldn't sweat judgements over changing up characters' wardrobe overmuch.

You are an artist, this is your story to tell.

Most importantly, you're good at the outfit design thing! By all means, work it!

Ah, thank you! I didn't render the wallpaper going forward as well as I did on this page but that was more of a sanity thing.

As long as the intent comes across :)
