Tbh, I think this was a good choice but I guess skilled people can comment on that better. Saying the backstory now after the whole incident happened because this way you can kind of think like Chase while reading :D
Speaking of "last night." Man. Feels like forever over here... :O

Dagon appeared in enough games for me to know better :D

Ahh, thank you :D

I definitely wanted to get to the backstory LATER in the story itself. I've read stories that spend way too long on the explanation, the WHY, before getting to anything. It's difficult to do that AND develop the characters, and even harder to develop the characters during the WHY without a boatload of exposition... and as you know exposition is my enemy :D

I would rather tackle the why as exposition than the character development as exposition, but only after we have a lens to view it through - we know Chase, we know Clara, and now that we know how they got to know each other their relationship starts to make a little more sense.

I'm glad that it's working out. Thank you Jak :)

And yes... it was pretty daunting to me when I wrote "last night" on this page :')

Where did the year disappear to...

Hm.
I agree! Really depends on the story but even then there are pro and contra for any given method. Still, you do not have a story that can escape this sort of thing more so with having a detective/mystery stuff although that is as much as I can say because I myself like to read stuff :D
It is mostly about what kind of feel you want to present and you opted for the readers experiencing it the way the duo did so that works!

I took a moment to re-read from the beginning. It was well worth it as I had missed a couple of pages early on and some of the details clicked better with the second reading. In my mind's eye Clara looks like a young Mary Tyler Moore.

Oh yeah, I've actually on a couple occasions taken an hour to stop and just read through this whole thingamajig to see if it's making sense or if I need to adjust coming pages to cover something I'd missed.

I find it makes a lot more sense to take it all in at once, and, blessedly through some sort of fluke or miracle, it seems the engine is running okay? :D I feel like I'm getting better at this stuff.

As for Clara, I could totally see that! Appropriately dolled up or down to match her rebellious sensibilities, hehehe :)

I also wonder if Clara is Hope Blackwell's grandmother.

I'm not familiar, are you referring to the character from this novel I'm seeing "The Greek Key?"

The "second worst psychic in the world?" That's hilarious :'D

Yes, That's the correct character. The novel is a spin off from from A Girl and her Fed. Not really the same universe but both characters resonate for me. By the way the posters arrived yesterday. They are most excellent. Thanks!

I am enjoying this backstory.

For we fans of the writings of Lovecraft, we have much of the Mythos in the back of our minds as we read. It is enjoyable to see the Mythos through new eyes, so to speak. It recaptures the sense of wonder that we had when we first started reading these stories, even if the protagonists are experiencing alternating moments of bafflement and terror.

Bob! It felt weird not seeing you in the comments, but I know these pages don't really warrant a huge amount of commentary :)

I totally get what you mean - I was hoping to evoke that on some level, but on top of that this is going to be the first time people read about Lovecraft's mythos for some people (hopefully a lot of people?) so I want to briefly slip into the usual tone of "something seems weird, then it just gets weirder/worse" that you get with a normal Lovecraft mystery/horror story, heh.

Oh wow Clara was in the freakin' after-school Necronomiclub!!!

I wish Chase had talked with the "NOTICE ME SENPAI" Satanist guy, that would have made for an extremely wacky comic later down the line

Oh you know it :D

You mean instead of meeting Clara just some guy who was desperate for someone to acknowledge his occult interests? That's too buddy cop for me XD
